Nancy M. Corrigan, CFA, founder of Corrigan Financial, Inc., has over 20 years of experience in financial services. Her background is unique. With a major portion of her career spent in financial management for large institutional investors, she now brings the discipline and best practices of professional investors to wealth management for individuals, families, and business owners.
At CIGNA, Nancy spent several years in an actuarial training program, gaining unparalleled insider knowledge of life insurance, medical insurance, and pension funds. As Controller of CIGNA’s Investment Division, she learned first-hand how different types of investments in both public and private markets can be coordinated to minimize risks and maximize returns. Her service as Vice President of Real Estate Investment Services and her later experience as a portfolio manager with AMB, a publicly traded real estate investment trust, taught her the ins and outs of commercial real estate, an asset class that, properly utilized, can add distinct benefits to an investment portfolio.
When Nancy became the Director of Strategy and Planning in the Treasurer’s Office of the University of California, she observed how important it is for each employee to understand the entire range of benefits and how to manage risks through available programs and from supplemental sources. She designed investment policy guidelines, spending/payout policies, and performance management reporting for UC’s $40 billion pension and $5 billion endowment funds that serve the nine-campus system. Her ability to design investment programs and to produce informative reports is now available to her clients.
As a first step away from institutional investment management, Nancy acted as Chief Financial Officer for Renoir Staffing Services, a family owned small business. While there, she not only restructured the company’s financial, accounting and risk management processes and managed human resources activities, but she also supervised the installation of new computer systems and applications to position the company for future growth in three locations in California. This personal experience with a closely held corporation gave her insight into how a business structure can be used in wealth management strategies.
With A.G. Edwards, Nancy completed training programs and earned the various licenses she needs to work with publicly traded investments on a national basis. In order to achieve more flexibility in the ways she can serve her clients, in 2005 she established Corrigan Financial, Inc., which can provide fee-based personalized financial plans as well as commissioned investment services.
Nancy holds the highly respected Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation. Her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics/Actuarial Science is from the University of Illinois-Urbana. She is a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco, the CFA Institute, and the San Francisco Financial Planning Association. She has also been an active member and served on several committees for the Commercial Real Estate Women of San Francisco. Her involvement with these professional organizations gives Nancy extensive resources to call upon when complex situations arise in her clients’ portfolios. She is committed to keeping her skills as current as possible, participating in over 30 hours of continuing educations classes each year, regularly updating her knowledge in such areas as portfolio management, investment management, risk management, and estate planning.
